About

Clacton Concert Orchestra, which is  based in Clacton-on-sea, was founded in 1966 and gives some four or five concerts a year in the Tendring area,  performing a wide range of music to suit all tastes from classical and light orchestral music to selections from popular musicals.

The Orchestra places great emphasis on young people and has provided a platform for several young players over the years,  some giving solo performances with the Orchestra and others being welcomed as occasional players or as members of the Orchestra,  We have been fortunate in having had the support of the Essex Community Foundation and a Grassroots Grant to enable us to bring good orchestral music to a much wider community throughout our district and the members of the Orchestra are committed to continue this important outreach work.

Regular rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings in Clacton on Sea, for more information please contact Hannah Speck, concert manager, hannahspeck92@gmail.com or 07952 181188

CCO is a non-profit making Registered Charity and donates the proceeds of its concerts to local charities and good causes, thus returning much needed funds to the community.  Many hundreds of pounds have been distributed in this way to organisations such as St Helena Hospice Tendring Day Care Centre, Clacton Hospital and Community Friends, Tendring Branch of SSAFA – Forces Welfare,  The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and many local Churches and other Societies.

After more than half a century of making live music available and accessible to all in our community CCO proudly announces that…

~ Over the past 50 years we have performed more than 200 concerts throughout the Tendring district.

~ We have played over 2000 pieces of music ranging from musicals to the classics of the orchestral repertoire.

~ We have performed world premieres and have provided a platform for over 50 talented soloists and guest conductors

~ We have supported numerous local charities and churches and have given 1000’s of pounds to these worthy causes.

~ We have had the pleasure of performing with numerous choirs and concert bands and our orchestra members have formed chamber groups, duos and trios.

~ We founded our very own training orchestra in 2015 ‘Blow the Dust off’ which is enjoyed by 20 budding musicians.

~ Our concerts have been enjoyed by over 4000 dedicated audience members.

All of our musical endeavours would not have been possible without the support of our community and loyal followers.

To all of you:

Our heartfelt thanks and in the orchestral tradition…

Please Stand up and Take a Bow!

  1. I am writing to let you know about a new chamber music course that might be of interest to string players in the Clacton Concert Orchestra and to ask if you would distribute this information to your members.

“Basically Quartets” is a new course aimed at adult amateur string players. It is being held in Penmaenmawr, North Wales, August 31st – September 5th, 2010. Participants will enjoy workshops and lectures designed to encourage and enlighten, a high tutor to participant ratio, and an intimate, supportive atmosphere.

    Our website address is: http://www.basicallyquartets.net

A PDF version of our brochure is available at: http://www.basicallyquartets.net/documents/brochure.pdf

If you would like to receive printed brochures, please send a mailing address and I will post them to you.

    Thank you,

    Christine Gale Harrison

  2. Update on the “Basically Quartets” course:

We are looking for two more violinists to make up numbers in groups that have registered, one leader and one second violin. Please get in touch if you are interested.

Still room on the course for one more preformed group too.

  3. “Basically Quartets” is coming together and we’re still in the process of matching up players. We’ve found the second violin we were looking for but are still on the lookout for a fairly experienced leader to complete the group. Another group requires a cellist at a grade 7/8 standard and we have one lone cellist at grade 5 with no quartet experience looking for 3 compatible novice players.

August 31 – September 5, Penmaenmawr, North Wales, £495 inclusive of meals, accommodation and all tuition.

Please get in touch if you are interested.

  4. Dear Sir or Madam;
I’d like to send you a leaflet regarding an opportunity for your members who play in string chamber ensembles to attend a summer coaching week with the Fitzwilliam Quartet in central Italy. If you would be willing to pass some information on to your members could please supply me with an email address? More information can also be found at http://www.corcianostringquartetretreat.org.

    Thank you so much,
    Laura Vick

  5. Hi, I have contacted you before but work commitments got in the way of me attending one of your practises. I am currently studying Grade 5 ABRSM alto Saxophone and eager to join a group to play amongst.

Please could you advise me of dates and times you return after the Christmas break.

    Kind Regards,

    Kat
